Pie for Two Chapter 4Pie for Two Chapter 4 by ~FlutterDash7
Two peaceful weeks passed in Ponyville. They were happy weeks of not seeing much of AppleJack as Pinkie successfully fought to suppress her crush on the mare who had rejected her. The group had even planned to meet up later on friday, in two days time. Despite everything, she was actually looking forward to seeing her friend again.
But just as Pinkie Pie began to feel happier with her baking, she felt her strange, dangerous twitch on her right shoulder manifest once again. “This is bad bad bad!” The party pony shot up, dropping the rolling pin she held.
It clattered to the floor, only to bring an odd silence to the room, her mother figure turned to her with a questioning look upon her face. “What’s bad dear?”
“My strange itchy twitch on my right shoulder. Something bad is going to happen!”
Mrs Cake sighed, “if you say dear. I hope this isn’t between you and AppleJack again.”
Pinkie gulped. “Um... T-that’s what I th
You know what… I quite liked the new episode. I think I’ll have to at least check out some of the rest of season 4 as it comes out. I haven't seen any spoilers for the later episodes so I have no idea what I'm getting myself into here. But I'm hopeful that it will be a good season.
Note; spoilers from here. So only read if you either have seen it already or don’t mind getting a glimpse at what happens.
Now onto my comments on the double episode:
I like the new depth to Celestia and Luna got from it. Celestia no longer feels like the perfect princess pony she was set up to be when I met her in season 1.
Spike and his fainting gave me some cheep entertainment there. I’m not a spike fan and so didn’t feel bad about getting a kick out of his actions.
Pinkie was rather funny in the episode… Its rare that Pinkie being Pinkie will lead to something I like, but in this episode the TwiPie in the first half was great. She had some great moments and I consider them to have been strong TwiPie moments that actually made me like Alicorn Twi.
I love how Fluttershy and Dash were flying together for the earlier scenes ever since Dash saved her fillyfriend from one of the dark vines. (I just had to take a few screengrabs and use one as my new profile picture as they looked so cute together, plus I now have a cool Flutterdash gif too) Although I think that might have been about all the Flutterdash there was in the episode, so on a Flutterdash note, I think season 3's first episode was still better.
I have no idea why the episode had to kill the shipping feels in the second half. After such a great start for TwiPie and a decent enough start to the Flutterdash, the only thing I found wrong with the episode was that the second half the hints dried up and I may as well have taken my shipping goggles off.
What made it a great episode was seeing the really well done flashbacks and how they linked to the problem at hoof. They also had some great action sequences and plenty of Discord related past there too. (I think it could open up a few options for a past story between Discord and Celestia..)
I expected the episode to be rather poor, having a forest as the bad stallion sounded like one of the worse ideas they could have come up with. Then I watched the episode. I’m impressed by how dark and dangerous the Everfree forest appeared. It made for quite a good adventure as the group fought their way to the tree of Harmony.
And Pinkie finding the stars was rather funny. The accompanying sound effects were great and it looks like that mare could just about take a bumpy fall from any height…
Discord’s response to the tree being freed gave me cause for a laugh though. I’ve really come to like Discord and I still think he would make an amusing special somepony for Celestia.
The only thing I’m left wondering is how did Luna and Celestia get captured in the first place…?
